March 30th – Chazzy Green

This saxophonist brings the Motown vibes to Hengelo
On Sunday 30 March, JazzRock Café and Metropool welcome none other than saxophonist Chazzy Green to Hengelo.

Born and raised in Detroit, Chazzy came into contact with the rich Motown scene at an early age. His musical roots are deep: family members such as Lester Bowie and Joseph Bowie inspired him, while greats such as Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley and Eddie Harris shaped his sound. But Chazzy was also influenced by the energetic grooves of Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang and even Jimi Hendrix.

In 1979, Chazzy scored his first hit with Nature’s Divine and the song I Just Can’t Control Myself. After moving to Los Angeles, things went fast. Under the wings of Ray Parker Jr., he worked on major hits such as The Other Woman and the iconic soundtrack Ghostbusters. He later contributed to multi-platinum hits like This Is How We Do It with Montell Jordan and On How Life Is with Macy Gray.

Chazzy toured the world with legends like WAR, The Brothers Johnson, Ray Parker Jr. and Johnny ‘Guitar’ Watson. His latest album Let’s Go Home (2021) reached number eight on the Smooth Jazz Charts. His dynamic, soulful stage style makes every show a unique experience.
